Rewyre
Helping streamline the entire process of acquiring property technology - from research, proposal document creation, and payment processing.
The future landscape of NYC buildings is changing with a local law (LL97) requiring a huge reduction in building emissions by the year 2030. To help equip property owners with the technology and resources they need to update their building infrastructure, Rewyre's all-in-one platform serves as a streamlined solution and experience for this and many other property technology needs.
To create this web application, we interviewed several property managers, building owners, and property technology companies to get a comprehensive understanding of the space. We then prototyped several different designs and conducted user testing to fully refine and flesh out the overall platform to have the most fluid and seamless experience from discovery to purchase.
STEP 1
DEFINE
Problem
HondaJet Problem
Why do building managers need a platform for property technology procurement?

the right property technology can be difficult, cumbersome, and tedious to find from a myriad of options and sources
creating proposals to pitch new property technology to building approval committees is traditionally a painful manual and intensive task
customer support during the property technology acquisition process is usually nonexistent and communication between parties is disjointed
keeping track of payments for devices, installation, and subscriptions can get confusing and disorganized
Goals
HondaJet Goals
What would a succcessful property technology marketplace consist of?
1
a well-organized, categorical database of property technology with
robust search filters, sliders, and options
2
an easy-to-use and intuitive proposal builder tool that automates a majority of the document but still provides user control and flexibility
3
a built-in messaging system for building managers to communicate directly with property technology vendors for pricing, questions, and integration issues
4
a quote management system that allows integrators to provide quotes and for building managers to negotiate, pay, and manage these various system quotes

User Research
Goals for User Research

Familiarize ourselves with the current workflow of a building manager without the ReWyre platform during the property technology acquisition process - including discovery, research, and quote negotiation.
Learn what problem areas exist for building owners when discovering and selecting specific property technology solutions for their various building needs.

Learn what the areas of friction are for communication between integrators and building owners and how they can be mitigated

Learn the various phases of a property technology solution quote and understand the necessary steps to ensure proper revision and approval.
User Research Strategy
Interviews

-
Conducting in-depth interviews with building managers, integrators, and property technology companies to understand where various pain points exist in the entire procurement process for these solutions

-
These interviews will help give us more insight and learn more about the following areas:
benefits in terms of improved efficiency, reduced user frustration, and time taken to conduct various user tasks
shortcomings in terms of repeated pain points while conducting various necessary user flows
personal suggestions for overall application and experience improvement as well as potential feature additions or subtractions
Surveys

-
Sending surveys to building managers to gain further data on the prevalence and importance of various pain points during the property technology procurement process without the use of a the ReWyre platform

-
Sending surveys to integrators to gain further data on the utility and shortcomings of their current customer acquisition and quote pricing processes
HondaJet Key Insights
STEP 3
IDEATE
Outlining the solution
Based on our user research, we identified 4 main functions for the ReWyre property-technology acquisition platform:
a robust marketplace of various property technology solutions that promotes the discovery of new products through efficient search filters and intuitive organization
a proposal builder tool that integrates with the marketplace products and helps automate and track the progress of proposals from initial creation to final approval
a projects page with individualized project dashboards to provide high-level information and easily accessible actions
a quote management page that displays quote approval status and all necessary quote information
STEP 4
CREATE
Sketching Lo-Fi Wireframes
Iteration #1
Post User Research
Utilizing our user research data and competitor analysis, we were able to create wireframes that would allow a user to be able to complete the 4 main functions outlined in our findings above

STEP 5
VERIFY
Creating Lo-Fi Prototypes
Iteration #2
Post User Testing
Utilizing the original wireframes, we conducted user testing with building managers to determine what pain points they were able to find within the interface that we loosely mocked up. We took those findings and we thought through and designed new UI and UX elements to more closely match the needs of the pilot. We mocked up our second iteration of designs with Figma and created more robust lo-fi prototypes

Finalizing Application Designs
HondaJet Final Designs
Iteration #3
Post Final Edits
After one final round of user testing, we took our lo-fi prototypes and really ensured that we had solved any user pain points and functionality shortcomings. Through various iterations, we were able to create a seamless, effective user interface and experience that perfectly aids a HondaJet pilot with all of the various tasks and functions that they would need during a routine flight. The final screen designs are shown below:
